About the Partners

Eric Hinsdale

Eric Hinsdale has been working with technology in libraries since 1990. He has worked in special libraries, academic libraries, and for the public library system. From 2001 to 2003 he served as Technology Coordinator for the Metropolitan Library Service Agency (MELSA), which works with the city and county library systems in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. Since 2003 he has worked as Technology Coordinator at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. In 2008 Carleton received the Excellence In Academic Libraries Award from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). The award cited the library for “working hard in a team atmosphere in order to provide a welcoming environment for its students and faculty by utilizing technology to enhance its space, services and resources.”

Eric’s current areas of interest include open source library systems, support for mobile computing devices, next-generation search tools, and access and preservation for digital collections.

Library of Tomorrow

Libraries matter today more than ever. But today's library -- and tomorrow's -- cannot simply duplicate services that worked in the past. They must combine the best characteristics of traditional libraries with the newest technologies so our users can thrive in today's information-based society.

In this online forum, we aim to raise issues that affect libraries and our user communities, ask difficult questions, and provide a forum for open and honest discussion. We hope to challenge, inspire, and learn.

Library of Tomorrow -- because libraries still matter.
